Date Lady Product Review

Just in time for dinner, I received a package from the "Date Lady". She makes products out of the oldest fruit there is, "Dates". Besides making great products, she has a cozy cafĂ©, located in Springfield, MO. They are a family-owned business founded and raised in the magnificent Ozarks. At one level, though, they stayed in the Middle East and got hooked to the good things that come from the date palm. Now they been loving this stuff for years, so they are, pretty much all about the date aficionados on this side of Cali.

A little history: Dates Deemed the oldest grown crop in the world, geological data suggests the dates date back at least 50 million years ago. The common name, phoenix dactylifera, originates from ancient Greece. ... Since the date palm flourished rapidly in Phoenicia, it was assumed to be the birthplace of the plants. The color of the date syrup depends on the number of dates used and the method used to produce the syrup. There are hundreds of various types of dates cultivated all over the world. Specific countries prefer to use various types of syrup, and sometimes countries use a number of different types together to create one syrup.

So for dinner I made coconut shrimp appetizer, and used the organic gluten free gmo free sweet chili saucefrom "The Date Lady company". The sauce, with the coconut shrimp paired perfectly. The sauce was a combo of sweet, sour, and spicy. The "Date Lady's" chili sauce had just the perfect kick. This sauce I would also consider using over chicken and other seafood dishes, and veggies as well. Ingredients: California Dates, Apple Cider Vinegar, Garlic Powder, Sea Salt, Chili Pepper Flakes.

For the main course, it was baked chicken, with a glaze made from the "Date Lady's" organic puredate syrup. Using date syrup as an natural sweetener instead of refined sugar or honey is a great alternative. But also as I did, it made a wonderful glaze for my chicken dish. Date syrup is not new, it has been around for decades and is closely interwoven with Middle Eastern cuisine. It also has many health benefits, as well. The color of the syrup is similar to molasses, the texture and flavor was rich, and deeply sweet, but not overpoweringly so. If you enjoy dates as a snack, you will enjoy their notes in this syrup. Although I used it for chicken, this syrup can be used on a variety of foods, and used in replacement for other sugars. Whether you drizzle it on top on ice cream, use it to bake, or to improve a veggie recipe, this syrup will fill the bill.
