Day #3 Southern City Flavors Jam Review

My day three of reviewing Southern City Flavors, will be using their jam products for a fun day of baking. All of Southern City Flavors, jams are all natural, and I can't wait to share with you the wonderful things I made.

The first thing I baked was a half dozen linzer cookies, and the star shining through in the middle was the Southern City strawberry jam. This jam is made from homegrown strawberries, and you can taste the freshness in every bite. When you open the jar of Southern City Flavors strawberry jam, the aroma you capture is a luscious perfume of the strawberries. The taste of the jam is sweet, the color bright, and has beautiful aromatics. No store shelves have jams like theses. If you have the option of homemade jam or store brand, Southern City Flavors is the one to choose. The consistency is so amazing, and spreads like butter. Its just mind blowing how great this jam tasted.

For the red raspberry jam, I made a sponge cake in my instant pot, and used my instant pot baking pan. So I got a nice round red raspberry sponge cake. The color of this red raspberry jam is so rich and deep. As soon as you open the jar, the fragrant sweet tones just flow right out. The taste is subtly tart, and melts in your mouth. And a as a filling for my sponge cake the Southern City Flavors red raspberry jam was perfect. It was like spreading butter, and the texture and look gave me a very decadent dessert. The red raspberry jam definitely has a intense flavor that you will want more of.

I had been wanting to make some dessert bars and since I had so many jams, I thought I would make a few.

First up was some apple butter bars, with a nutty walnut topping. The apple butter from Southern City Flavors tasted so sweet, and you could tell the apples that made the butter we're fresh. The spice blend ingredients in the apple butter we're very decadent. And to make my bars with the apple butter was very easy, because it was smooth as silk to spread. Southern City Flavors apple butter gives off a warm hint of cinnamon, and really reminds you of the Holiday season. The aroma, the texture, the taste, are just in their own essence, a class by their self.

I had so many jams, but I wanted to make a few more bars, and the next flavor came from Southern City Flavors blackberry jam. For the bars the jam spread so easy, and melded great, with the topping of a brown sugar, it was a heavenly dessert. There will be know doubt in your mind if you taste this jam, that it was made from real fresh blackberries. The natural juicy flavor from the berries is so yummy. There is nothing complex about this flavor jam at all, its tasty, and fresh. It reminds you of a nice summer day, eating a great dessert. The tang from the blackberries is very slight, but are there, however nothing over powering. Just a wonderful rich jam, with the ideal texture and flavor.

I had the flavor jam strawberry pineapple, from Southern City Flavors, and decided to make a small bread pudding, with the jam as the star ingredient. The flavors of this jam really make you feel like your eating a true Southern dessert, Grandma cooked. And if your wondering, you really taste the strawberries and the pineapple flavors. Immediately when you open the jar, the aroma rises up, and smells so decadent. And as a ingredient warmed in a bread pudding, nothing flavor wise was lost. It truly is a one of a kind jam flavor.

My jam bars continued with Southern City Flavors peach jam. Again the jam was all natural tasting, and spread like velvet. Inside the jar is nothing less then true Southern Peach flavors. Tasting the jam makes you feel like you just bit into a nice fresh juicy peach off the tree. The jam manages to capture such spectacular warm over tones. You taste the homemade flavors, and the love in this jar of peach jam. After all fresh peaches equal happiness.

For the last set of dessert bars, I used the wild Maine blueberry champagne jam. I always some how end up with the best for last. The jam of course is made with wild Maine blueberries, and you can taste the freshness right away. The twist to the jam is the crispiness of the champagne that enhances the flavor even more. The Southern City Flavors wild Maine blueberry champagne is a refreshing flavor jam to have in your cabinet. I will save the rest for a special occasion, because it is that special. The jam is filled not only with great flavors, but is fun to taste.

After all this baking, I decided to make a fast and simple dinner, and used Southern City Flavors stone ground grits, and made shrimp and grits. The grits are all natural and stone ground, and done so in one of the few powdered mills left in the US. The taste is so natural and authentic, a true Southern dish with great grits. They held up so great having not only the shrimp on top but the sauce as well. If you are looking for a low fat, and great source of fiber, grits is a great choice. The Southern City Flavors grits are the real deal. You get a nice nutty taste, and a nice earthy flavor in every bite. And grits can be cooked and have so many additional ingredients added to it.
