Halogi Hot Sauce Co. Review

If you love a hot sauce that you can add to everything, you are going to love the one I will tell you about today.

It comes from the company, Halogi Hot Sauce Co., located in Sioux Falls, SD. Created by, Nick Curry, and Luke Davidson.

The bottle that the company sent over, is called, Baldr's Bane. A nice Verde hot sauce, and enjoyable on everything you can eat.

Halogi comes from Norse Mythology, but there's nothing ancient about this Verde hot sauce. it is current and fine-tuned. The flavor profile is spot on, in this small batched Verde hot sauce. The aroma is so bright and crisp when you open the bottle. When you taste it, you get a hint of the orange and lime ingredients. There is no tartness whatsoever.

My first tasting was breakfast time when I included some into my huevos ranchero eggs. It gave my dish a nice taste of good Verde flavor. And the heat level was nice, nothing overpowering at all.

For lunch, I made a small pot of Verde chili and included a cup of, Halogi, Baldr's Bane hot sauce. The amount of flavor that it brought to the chili was mouth-watering. And the ingredient of white vinegar in the Baldr's Bane hot sauce really made a difference.

FOR THE CHILI

2 tablespoons olive oil

3-pound boneless pork shoulder

2 tablespoon Halogi Baldr's Bane hot sauce

1 teaspoon cumin optional

Salt and pepper to taste

1 large onion chopped

4 cloves garlic chopped

1 tablespoon Mexican oregano

½  to 1 cup chicken stock

½ cup chopped cilantro

Juice from 1 large lime

FOR THE VERDE SAUCE

1/2 pounds tomatillos husked and rinsed

1 poblano pepper stemmed and sliced in half lengthwise

1 jalapeno pepper stemmed and sliced in half

 Instructions

First, make your Verde sauce. Preheat the oven to broiling.

Tomatillos, peeled and washed, cut in half horizontally (not up and down), and lay skin sides up in a lightly greased baking dish.

Put the peppers, skin side up, on a separate lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake the peppers and tomatillos for 12-15 minutes, or until the skin side of the tomatillos and peppers blisters. If necessary, rotate the baking sheets. Depending on your closeness to the heating element, you may require up to 20 minutes.

Remove from the heat and set aside to cool somewhat. Remove and discard the pepper skins. The skins of the tomatillos can be peeled off if desired, but I prefer to leave them on.

In a food processor, combine the tomatillos and peppers. Blend until smooth. Set aside for the time being.

THE CHILI

Heat oil in a big saucepan over medium heat.

Season the pork shoulder with Baldr's Bane hot sauce, cumin, salt, and pepper, then sear the cubes for a minute or two on each side, turning occasionally, until each side is beautifully browned.

Add the onions and stir to combine. Cook them for 5 minutes to soften.

Sauté for another minute after adding the garlic and Mexican oregano.

Pour in the remaining Verde sauce, and 1⁄2 cup chicken stock, or up to a cup if you want a thinner chili Verde. Bring to a boil, then lower to low heat and cover. Simmer for 2 hours (or longer if necessary), or until the meat is fork-tender.

Pull the chile Verde from the heat and toss in the cilantro and lime juice.

Add more Baldr's Bane hot sauce to your taste!

On the side, I served chips with a small dish of the Halogi Baldr's Bane hot sauce for dipping.

For dinner I made a nice cube pork stew, adding in the Halogi, Baldr's Bane hot sauce. The Baldr's Bane hot sauce has a nice mild heat level, that you can enjoy over and over again, without burning for the rest of the day. You won't believe how good, the Verde flavor is, in, Bladr's Bane. You taste the jalapenos, and the cilantro, but not a lot of salt. So everyone can feel free to enjoy this delicious hot sauce.
