Cajun Corn on the Cob: A Spicy Side Dish

Cajun corn on the cob is a delicious and easy side dish that's perfect for summer BBQs, potlucks, or a weeknight meal.  This recipe takes fresh corn on the cob and coats it in a flavorful Cajun spice mix, creating a symphony of sweet and spicy flavors.

What is Cajun Seasoning?

Cajun seasoning is a blend of spices that originated in the Cajun region of Louisiana. It typically includes paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and black pepper. The exact blend of spices can vary, but they all come together to create a unique and flavorful seasoning.

Ingredients:

6 ears of fresh corn on the cob

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Cajun Butter:  In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder.  Mix well to combine.

Cook the Corn:  There are a few ways to cook the corn on the cob. Here are three options:

Boiling: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the corn and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until tender.

Grilling: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Pull back the husks of the corn slightly, then brush the corn with melted butter or olive oil. Grill the corn for 5-7 minutes per side, or until tender and slightly charred.

Microwaving: Pull back the husks of the corn slightly, then place the corn in a microwave-safe dish with a splash of water. Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes, or until tender.

Serve:  Once the corn is cooked, spread the Cajun butter evenly over the corn cobs.  Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve immediately.

Tips:

For extra spice, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the Cajun butter.

If you don't have fresh Cajun seasoning, you can substitute it with a blend of paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and black pepper.

If you don't have fresh corn on the cob, you can use frozen corn cobs. Thaw the corn cobs before cooking and follow the package instructions for cooking time.

Cajun corn on the cob can be served as a side dish or enjoyed on its own as a snack.

Cajun corn on the cob is a simple yet flavorful side dish that's sure to please everyone at the table. With its combination of sweet corn and spicy Cajun seasoning, it's a taste of Louisiana that you can enjoy at home!
