Cranberry sauce is a classic holiday dish often served with turkey and ham. While it is readily available in stores, making your cranberry sauce is a great way to control the ingredients and create a healthier, more flavorful version.
Ingredients:
12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes,
or until the cranberries have popped and the sauce has thickened.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
Tips:
For a sweeter sauce, add more sugar to taste.
For a more tart sauce, add more orange juice or lemon juice.
To make a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to puree it after
it cools slightly.
You can add other ingredients to your cranberry sauce, such as chopped
apples, pears, or pineapple.
Cranberry sauce can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in the
refrigerator.
Enjoy!
