There is nothing quite like the combination of tart, sunny lemons and sweet, juicy blueberries to capture the essence of summer in a glass. Whether you're hosting a backyard barbecue or just looking for a way to cool down on a lazy afternoon, this homemade blueberry lemonade is the perfect treat.
It’s
vibrant, refreshing, and incredibly easy to make from scratch. Once you try
this version, you might never go back to the store-bought stuff again!
Ingredients
To
make about 6 servings, you will need:
- For the Blueberry Syrup:
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
(adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup water
- For the Lemonade:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed
lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 3 to 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Optional garnishes:
Fresh blueberries, lemon slices, and fresh mint sprigs
Instructions
1.
Make the Blueberry Syrup
In
a small saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and water. Bring the mixture
to a simmer over medium heat. Let it cook for about 5–8 minutes, stirring
occasionally, until the berries burst and the sugar is completely dissolved.
Once
finished, remove from heat. You can leave the berries as they are for a rustic
look, or strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve if you prefer a smoother
drink. Let the syrup cool completely.
2.
Prepare the Lemonade Base
In
a large pitcher, combine your freshly squeezed lemon juice and the remaining
3–4 cups of cold water. Stir in your cooled blueberry syrup until well
combined.
3.
Serve and Enjoy
Fill
glasses with plenty of ice and pour the blueberry lemonade over the top.
Garnish with a few fresh blueberries, a thin slice of lemon, or a sprig of mint
to add an extra touch of freshness.
Pro-Tip:
If you want an extra festive touch, try topping your glass with a splash of
sparkling water or club soda for a fizzy blueberry lemonade spritzer!
