A Taste of the Garden: Two Men and a Garden Salsa & Pickle Review

If you love foods that bring a little homemade flavor to the table, Two Men and a Garden is a company worth checking out. What started as two St. Louis neighbors combining their backyard gardens in 2006 eventually grew into a business creating salsa and pickles with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The company says it works with local farmers and uses organic tomatoes in its salsa.

I had the opportunity to try several of their products, including Cantina Style Salsa, Peach Salsa, Smoky BBQ Pickles, and Classic Dill Pickles. Each has its own personality, making them easy to enjoy straight from the jar or incorporate into everyday recipes.

Cantina Style Salsa

The Cantina-Style Salsa – Medium Heat is a great choice if you like salsa with a little kick without going overboard. Two Men and a Garden describes its Cantina Style Salsa as a medium-heat option, and the company offers a variety of salsa flavors ranging from mild to screaming hot.

I love a salsa that can do more than sit beside a bowl of tortilla chips, and this one is perfect for that. It can be spooned over tacos, eggs, grilled chicken, or burgers or used as an ingredient in dips and casseroles.

Easy Cantina Salsa Chicken

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup Two Men and a Garden Cantina-Style Salsa
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican-blend cheese
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, optional
  • Sour cream, optional

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Place the chicken breasts in a lightly greased baking dish.
  3. Season both sides with taco seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spoon the cantina-style salsa over the chicken.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken reaches 165°F internally.
  6. Remove the foil, sprinkle with cheese, and return to the oven for another 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with cilantro and serve with rice, beans, or tortilla chips.

It's an easy weeknight dinner with plenty of flavor and very little preparation.

Peach Salsa: Sweet Meets Spicy

The peach salsa was one of my favorites because it combines two flavors I wouldn't normally think to put together—sweet peaches and spicy salsa.

Two Men and a Garden created the peach salsa by combining its medium-heat salsa with ripe peaches. The result is described as both spicy and sweet, with the peach adding a cool, fruity contrast to the heat. The ingredient list includes organic tomatoes, peaches, onions, peppers, jalapeƱos, cilantro, garlic, cumin, and other ingredients.

This is one of those products that makes you think beyond the chip bowl. Try it with grilled chicken or pork, spoon it over cream cheese for an easy appetizer, or use it as a topping for tacos.

Peach Salsa Glazed Chicken

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup Two Men and a Garden Peach Salsa
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Place the chicken in a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Mix the peach salsa, honey, and lime juice together.
  5. Spoon the mixture generously over the chicken.
  6. Bake for approximately 25–30 minutes, depending on the thickness of the chicken, until it reaches 165°F.
  7. Spoon some of the warm peach salsa from the pan over the chicken before serving.

The sweetness from the peaches and honey pairs beautifully with the savory chicken, while the salsa brings just enough heat to keep things interesting.

Smoky BBQ Pickles

Now let's talk pickles!

The smoky BBQ pickles are a fun twist on the traditional pickle. Instead of being simply salty and tangy, they bring a smoky barbecue-style character to the pickle experience.

These are the kind of pickles I could see serving alongside burgers, barbecue sandwiches, grilled meats, or even adding to a chopped pickle salad. They can also be enjoyed right out of the jar when you're looking for a crunchy snack.

Two Men and a Garden has an entire pickle lineup that includes dill, spicy dill, bread and butter, bread and butter kickers, and its smoky BBQ variety.

Classic Dill Pickles

For pickle lovers who prefer the traditional route, Classic Dill Pickles are a great choice. Two Men and a Garden describes its dill pickles as traditional dill pickles made with fresh pickles and fresh dill.

They're crisp, tangy, and have that familiar dill flavor that works with just about everything. Serve them beside a sandwich, chop them into tuna or chicken salad, put them on a burger, or simply grab one from the jar for a snack.

My Take on Two Men and a Garden

What I really like about Two Men and a Garden is the story behind the company. It began with two neighbors and backyard gardens and grew into a business focused on salsa and pickles. The company emphasizes small-batch production, seasonally available ingredients, locally grown produce, and organic tomatoes.

The variety also makes it easy to find something for everyone. Whether you're a traditional dill pickle fan, someone who likes smoky barbecue flavors, or a salsa lover looking for something sweet and spicy, there is plenty to explore.

The Cantina-style salsa is a great all-purpose salsa with medium heat, while the peach salsa adds a delicious sweet-and-spicy twist. The Smoky BBQ Pickles offer something different from the usual pickle, and the Classic Dill Pickles deliver the familiar crunchy dill flavor we all know and love.

If you're looking for ways to add a little extra flavor to everyday meals, these are products worth putting on your shopping list.

Have you tried Two Men and a Garden? Which would you reach for first—the Cantina-Style Salsa, Peach Salsa, Smoky BBQ Pickles, or Classic Dill Pickles?
