Ingredients

 

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.  

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.  

Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Tips and Variations

 

For a richer flavor, use half butter and half shortening.

To make the cookies more festive, add some food coloring to the dough.

For a chocolatey twist, add 1/2 cup of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.

To make the cookies nuttier, add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts to the dough.

To make the cookies more crumbly, add 1/4 cup of cornstarch to the flour.
