The
Red Savina pepper is a habanero chili cultivar that has been deliberately
developed to produce hotter, heavier, and bigger fruit, making it ultimately
more powerful than its derivation.
The
Red Savina is twice as spicy as a normal habanero and 65 times hotter than a
jalapeo pepper, according to laboratory testing and certification at over
577,000 Scoville units. It is the king of all chilies and the hottest of all
habanero types.
The
Red Savina chili formerly held the title for the hottest chili in the world
(according to Guinness World Records), but it was surpassed in February 2007 by
the bhut jolokia chili (often and mistakenly translated as "Ghost
Pepper"). From 1994 through 2006, the Red Savina held the record.
