Ingredients:
For the Hot Dogs:
8 footlong hot dogs
Hamburger buns (footlong size)
Olive oil
For the Spicy Slaw:
2 cups shredded green cabbage
1/2 cup shredded red cabbage
1/2 cup diced red onion
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Chipotle Mayo:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
(adjust to your spice preference)
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
Chopped red onion
Sliced jalapenos
Pickled banana peppers (optional)
Instructions:
Make the Spicy Slaw: In a large bowl, combine the green
cabbage, red cabbage, red onion, and cilantro. In a separate bowl, whisk
together the lime juice, olive oil, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and
pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to coat. Set aside.
Prepare the Chipotle Mayo: In a small bowl, whisk
together the mayonnaise, and chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, lime juice,
garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the spice level as desired.
Cook the Hot Dogs: Preheat your grill or grill pan to
medium heat. Brush the hot dogs with olive oil. Grill the hot dogs for 3-4
minutes per side, or until cooked through.
Toast the Buns: While the hot dogs are cooking, toast the
hamburger buns on the grill for a minute or two, until lightly browned.
Assemble the Firecracker Footlongs: Spread a generous
amount of chipotle mayo on the bottom bun. Add the hot dog, then top with the
spicy slaw, chopped red onion, sliced jalapenos, and any other desired
toppings. Add a dollop of extra chipotle mayo on top for good measure, and
enjoy your firecracker creation!
Tips:
For a milder slaw, remove the seeds from the jalapenos
before slicing.
If you don't have chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, you
can substitute them with smoked paprika or your favorite hot sauce.
Get creative with your toppings! You could add crumbled
blue cheese, crispy fried onions, or even a drizzle of sriracha.
These Firecracker Footlongs are best served immediately.
Celebrate your Fourth of July with a bang with these
delicious Firecracker Footlongs! They're sure to be a hit with your guests and
add a touch of excitement to your barbecue. So fire up the grill, grab your
favorite toppings, and get ready to enjoy a taste of Independence Day!
