Zabuni Coffee Product Review

Coffee, many of us drink it, but don't know the process of it coming into our coffee cups.

Today, I got to try some coffee from the company, Zabuni, located in Grand Island, NE.

Zabuni is not your regular coffee store, this husband and wife team, journey started in 2012. It all began when small scale farmers located in, Nyeri, Kenya reached out to them. They needed help, with producing their coffee, and being able to live, and provide for their families. And that's where Laban and Cora Njuguna stepped in. They connected small family farms that grew the worlds best hand picked coffee, with roasteries and shops across the U.S. They husband and wife team work hard, bringing, verifiable, sustainable change to the trade and the supply of coffee. Zabuni, has a incredible story to tell about the whole process and the story of coffee, for you to read on their website. From the producer, to the roaster, to the consumer. Then when you take that sip of coffee, you will appreciate every sip you are taking. And who you are helping along the way! All the coffee from, Zabuni, is sourced from quality coffee production in Kenya, the central highlands.

At, Zabuni, they do it all different. Their process starts with a connection, to a special coffee auction. That is what Zabuni, is all about. A auction service, instead of a importer or reseller. The coffee is from farmer owned destinations. This gives us, a much fresher coffee, at a great price, that in return profits the grower and the cooperatives. The Zabuni, website is full of wonderful reading and a wealth of information about coffee. Zabuni is also made in small batch's, ensuring quality and freshness.

With that being said, let me share with you my day, with these wonderful brews. And for those who don't know, I LOVE COFFEE! And it's nice to know the coffee that I will be drinking was ethically sourced, and the farmer whom hand picked the beans was paid fairly!

For breakfast, I brewed a pot of, Zabuni coffee, Kenya Igegania. It is a auction single origin specialty coffee, that is a fully washed, whole bean, medium roast. Igegania ("ee-gay-GAH-nee-ah") which means "miracle" in the Kenyan Kikuyu language. And it truly was in taste. When you drink coffee, to tell others about, you do so in a manner, and treat it like a fine wine. Drinking it black, gives you the full flavor. The body of the, Zabuni, Kenya Igegania, was very clean on the palate, with a bright acidity. The flavor notes, gives you a fruity blueberry taste with a hint of vanilla. And by grinding the coffee myself, I get to choose the coarseness of the blend. For this and all the coffee's sent by Zabuni, it is best brewed with filtered water, at 195 degrees to 205 degrees. Bringing you the full flavor of each blend. The, Kenya Igegnia coffee, had the most amazing aroma, from the time you open the bag, until the finishing brew. This coffee, came from Kiambu, Kenya, and was truly delicious.

Between breakfast and lunch, I took a little break from blogging, and brewed some of the, Zabuni, original dark. A full flavored brew, of whole beans, nice and dark, that were fully washed in a dark roast. After brewing and drinking a cup, you will very fast understand why this blend is a customer fav. It has wonderful notes of cocoa and honey in every sip. The body is rich, with sweet tones and savory floral notes. The acidity is just perfect, and makes a great cold brew or hot brew. A wonderful brew for anytime of the day, and with the most amazing aroma. If you prefer your coffee with full flavor characteristic to come through, then this is the perfect blend.

For lunch, I made a nice roast beef panini, and had a cup of Kenya peaberry coffee, from Zabuni. And if your thinking this is to much coffee by now, it's not for me! This brew was a nice full bodied coffee, that I ground from whole beans. The acidity was nice and sharp, and really stimulates the palate. You get a flavor note of winy flavor similar to black currants. A truly interesting blend of fruity notes, that was nice and creamy smooth. A more sweeter coffee, to enjoy anytime of the day or night. A very special blend. This coffee is made from the natural defect in that the way the coffee bean forms. But the taste has no defects at all, its perfect.

Now these breaks I am taking between meals are very spaced out, and on the next one I brewed some of the Zabuni, Kenya Bingwa. Again, in whole beans to grind myself, of a medium roast. This is a winner from, Mount Kenya, and by winner I mean it was. Bingwa ("BEEN-gwah") -- Swahili for "Champion". When you first open the bag of whole beans, you think you are unwrapping a bar of fine chocolate. The flavor notes are nice and fruity, and of tea and bakers chocolate. It makes a fine coffee for a break, but also for having a cup with dessert. A nice smooth sip on your palate, that is very clean and bright. It really curbs your craving for chocolate, in every sip.

Before the main course, I made some coffee cocktails, using, Zabuni, Kenya Kabunyeria whole bean coffee. Since I was using the whole bean coffee for a cocktail I ground them to a fine coarseness. The coffee is a medium roast, from Mount Kenya. Pronounced: ("Kah-boon-YAIR-ee-uh"), a North Rift coffee. The flavor is of full chocolate notes, and is mellow and very smooth on the palate. If compared to other coffee producers, this blend is much brighter and has a perfect acidity. It is intensely aromatic, and your family might think you are baking something very chocolatety. You will truly enjoy this as a cold or hot brew, and would be a great brew to add as a baking ingredient.

The last cup of coffee for the night was the, Zabuni, Tembo Dark. A whole bean dark roast blend. With a taste that leaves you feeling comfort at the end of the day. It is a new blend of coffee to, Zabuni, and I see it going far. You have rich notes of cocoa, with a grapefruit savory undertone, and a nice acidity. It has a wonderful brewing aroma, and the same aroma when you open the bag. The coffee leaves you with no after taste. It melded perfecly with a slice of chocolate cake, but would be great for any time of the day or night. Tembo is Swahili for "Elephant". This unique flavor of coffee, will have you remembering it for the rest of the evening.

There is so much to choose from, at the Zabuni website, from coffee to gear, they offer it all. There is the auction, the shop, custom and wholesale, even a subscription, and a wealth of information of coffee and their process.

They even offer you twenty five percent off on your first subscription order with the code "NEWSUB". And free shipping with orders of forty dollars or more.
