I can't tell you how exciting
it was, when I received products, from the well known actor and restaurateur,
Danny Trejo.
You may know, Danny Trejo, in
the many, many movies he has stared in. But did you know that this Mr. Tough
Guy, had some really great food. From the movie Machete, to Spy Kids, to coffee
and hot sauce, he has come along way. And let's not forget, his Tacos! And if
that's not enough, how about some donuts, from Trejo's in LA.
Danny Trejo, also gives back,
offering thousands of meals to frontline workers, and food insecure families.
And if you want to know more about his love for food, you can grab his
cookbook, Trejo's Tacos: Recipes and Stories from L.A.
Now I got to try, Trejo's
Coffee, and Trejo's hot sauce, and as the late Anthony Bourdain said, It's just
really good!
Now let me tell you through
all the excitement of trying Trejo's Coffee, what the experience was like.
The Trejo's coffee, blend I received
was, roasted in Los
Angeles, and is
a whole bean coffee, that is one hundred percent, Arabian. I got to grind the
coffee myself, and this gave me the option to choose how course to make it. Right
through the bag, literally, you could smell the amazing aroma from the Arabian
beans. The blend was medium, and very smooth on the palate. Trejo's,
incorporates three blends into his roasted coffee. From Mexico, El Salvador, and Columbia. With that many blends, you get a nice balance of
earthy notes, to a nice sweetness, with tones of chocolate. The house blend is
very well rounded, and is great with all food types any time of the day.
Arabica coffee beans bring you a much sweeter coffee, that has a nice softness
to it, and Trejo's Coffee, house blend is just that. The acidity was excellent,
with a little nuttiness at the end. Sip it like a fine wine, to enjoy and savor
the flavor. With breakfast, it was Trejo's coffee, and some fried plantains, and then in the afternoon, another cup just to relax!
Also from, Trejo's Taco's,
was the Trejo's hot sauce, L.A picante. For this I made some soft tacos, and
added the sauce to the meat for extra flavor. This sauce is the famous sauce
that is served in, Trejo's Tacos and Trejo's Cantina restaurants. The Fuerte y
Sabrosa blend is made from top grade ingredients such as: water, vinegar, chipotle pepper, chili de
arbol pepper, guajillo pepper, chili puya pepper, California entero pepper, sea salt, serrano pepper, kosher salt,
oregano, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, mixed seasoning. You get a nice kick
from the many different types of peppers. A perfectly blended hot sauce that is
very versatile. The jar contains no preservatives, no fillers, or artificial
ingredients. That’s what gives it, it's authentic flavors. Each premium pepper
is hand prepared, and has a nice strong flavor profile from it. Trejo's hot
sauce, L.A picante, is a thick sauce, with a nice smoky flavor, and a medium
picante heat, you will come back for again and again. The hand prepared hot
sauce is made in small batches, which brings you quality and ensures freshness.
Trejo's hot sauce is truly a one of a kind, sauce, made in a artisan spicy way.
The hot sauce with its dried and blended ingredients offers you a nice spicy
flavor on all types of food. Each bite of food you take with the Trejo's hot
sauce on it, reminds you of the love that went into the blend. Trejo's hot
sauce, L.A picante, can be used in replacement for BBQ sauce, or just keep it
on the table for a everyday condiment. It will bring good flavor to what ever
food you want to spice up!
For a out of the box recipe,
I made a chocolate dipping sauce, with some of the, Trejo's hot sauce, L.A
picante for some heat. And to get some sweetness served it with some sugar
churros. The balance of the sweet to heat was the perfect meld. You just wanted
to keep right on dipping.
