Copper Kettle Bakery Review

I love getting to experience new foods, ones I can create, and others I do reviews for. And today, was another first for my family and I with products sent over from a company called, Copper Kettle Bakery, Welsh baked goods.

Now when I opened the box, I thought oh my! These cookies are huge! But to my surprise, they were not cookies, they were Welsh cakes.

The box of goodies was as good as, the Company's start was inspiring. Helen, who grew up in
South Wales, ate these delights in the mornings. She shares with you how she watched and helped her Mum and Grandmother make these treasures, and how the giant Copper tea kettle would be boiling away, to enjoy tea with them. It was her dream to one day open a bakery, and it would be called Copper Kettle Bakery. But after a the loss of her Mum, and getting laid off, and making these yummy Welsh cakes for her own children, she soon realized her dream was about to come true. Everyone around her just fell in love with her, Welsh Cakes. And it was from there that we can now enjoy them in our own kitchen's, with our own family and friends.

Welsh cakes, just so you know, are the size of a large chubby cookie, made with some ingredients similar to scones, however cooked like a pancake on a griddle. They are the most mouthwatering delights, not to sweet, and very unique. To the Welsh, they are very well known. Great for a morning breakfast, or as a dessert treat. Serve warm or cold, they are a wonderful treat. A very versatile product that can be split and spread with jam, or served with a dollop of ice cream on top, how ever you wish to eat and serve them. Each Welsh cake is made in the traditional way, in small batch's, which ensures freshness and quality.

So to eat these wonderful Welsh cakes, I gathered the family around, made everyone a nice hot cup of tea, and tasted away.

The first one that we all took a piece of was the Copper Kettle, chocolate chip Welsh cake. It was very moist, but yet still held together, with out crumbling. It was buttery, and smooth, just melted in your mouth, leaving you the chocolate chips to savor and enjoy. We did warm this one up for a bit, and it was just wonderful. The pretty package that the Welsh cakes came in was ready for gift giving if you decided so. Each set sent over had a total of six Welsh cakes in them. I must warn you, they can become very addictive. You can also split them open and spread them with your favorite jam, maybe some honey, or what ever you choose, but just as tasty plain. They are just the most sophisticated bakery product, and very elegant to serve to your family and friends. They tasted good with a warm cup of tea, but also would be great with a nice cup of hot coffee. They also make a heavenly item to include in a tea party.

The next Welsh cake, from Copper Kettle, was the Apple crisp. This handmade gourmet cake is a traditional breakfast food in Wales, and after you taste one you will just fall in love. The taste. and the texture have such a distinctive taste, that is nectar to your lips. The Welsh cakes are so perfectly crafted, not overly sweet at all, and filled with yummy dried apples. And their appearance is so pretty, they would look amazing on a buffet table, or to serve on a special Holiday as dessert. The exquisite Welsh cakes just melt in your mouth like butter. They also hold up very well, holding them, even being so tender. And very aromatic when you open the bag!

The last bag of the Welsh cakes, from Copper Kettle, was the Currant flavor. Busting in every bite, with Zante Currants. The small and sweet currants make up this traditional Welsh cake. You can eat them for breakfast, or as a special treat, either way, you will not be disappointed. In each bite there is also a hint of cinnamon, and goes very well with a cup of hot tea. Another great feature about the Copper Kettle Welsh cakes, are if you don't finish them, which is hard not to do, you can store the rest in the freezer. These Welsh Cakes are so soft and buttery, you won't leave them frozen to long.

Also included from Copper Kettle, was a box of Welsh cake mix, in chocolate chip flavor, to make your own Welsh cakes. So that is what I did with the Grandkids. The box of mix yields twelve Welsh Cakes, and is very easy to mix and griddle. It's fun to cook with the Grandkids, and these Welsh cakes were amazing coming straight off the griddle and eaten. You can top them with some preserves or butter, or spilt them open and do the same. They are the most buttery, delicious treats, just pure homemade gourmet delights.

Also from Copper Kettle was a jar of seedless raspberry preserves. Now I could have used it for the Welsh cakes, but I wanted to give it a try, as a filling in a small sponge cake. This product is also hand crafted by Copper Kettle, and like the Welsh cakes, is just amazing. The taste of the seedless raspberry preserves, has a sweetness that is not over powering, and a light tangy after taste, that the palate enjoys. The texture is nice and smooth, and very delicately seeded, which was nice. With the little left over, it will be used on the next Welsh cake eaten! The seedless raspberry preserves are just a elegant handcrafted item, that taste great on what ever you pair it with. It's not to thick, or to thin, just the perfect blend.
