Chili is a hearty and flavorful dish perfect for a cold day. It is also a great way to use leftover ingredients. This recipe is easy to make and can be customized to your taste.
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground turkey
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and
rinsed
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and
rinsed
1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans, drained and
rinsed
1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (10 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (10 ounces) beef broth
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup water
Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream,
avocado, chopped green onions, tortilla chips
Instructions:
Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Add
ground beef and ground turkey and cook until browned. Drain off excess grease.
Add onion, garlic, and green bell pepper to the
pot and cook until softened.
Stir in kidney beans, black beans, pinto beans,
diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, chili powder, ground cumin, dried
oregano, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), Worcestershire sauce,
and water.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and
simmer for 1 hour, or until thickened.
Serve chili hot with your favorite toppings.
Tips:
Add more cayenne pepper or a teaspoon of hot
sauce for a spicier chili.
To make this recipe vegetarian, substitute the
ground beef and ground turkey with a plant-based protein, such as lentils or
tempeh.
Add a tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with 2
tablespoons of water for a thicker chili.
This chili is best served the next day when the
flavors have had a chance to meld.
Enjoy!
