Desert Pepper Trading Company Review

We all eat, and we all love food of some type. But learning the history of food, where it's humble beginnings started, the people behind the story, the place where the food is from, even how it's made, is the most interesting.

Food is not just a product in a jar, or in a bag, food has a life of it's own. And it's the concept of the food, that is the most interesting. Knowing what we are eating, how to eat it, and what else can I transform it into. Food is really a yummy mystery.

Today I received six jars from the company Desert Pepper Trading Company, located in El Paso, Texas. And their history is unique, their story amazing, from start to finish. From the ground up, to major stores, there products are a true "Food Story".

Desert Pepper Trading Company started on a street corner, selling Chile ristras and Chile wreaths. Then from Neiman Marcus, to the jar, their products are sold worldwide.

I am happy to try their products, and in doing so, as I often do, they will go into recipes made in my own kitchen. But before incorporating them, my palate will be the first stop, with a little taste before cooking, using the Desert Pepper products.

So today, my family will enjoy having a fiesta all day for our meals, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And trust me they don't mind. They love having themed meals.

This Italian girl, loves to give any type of food a try, but besides Italian food, my second love is Spanish food. And for breakfast today its going to be one of my all time favorites, "Huevos Rancheros".

I cooked my huevos rancheros, with the incorporation of the Desert Pepper roasted tomato chipotle corn salsa. Who wants ordinary, when you can be creative! It was a perfect combination of egg, cheese, smooth black beans, and the roasted tomato chipotle corn salsa. The taste of the Desert Pepper salsa is so fresh, like I just made it at home. You get the taste of sweet, and savory, and a little kick. The blend is smooth, and you can still see the ingredients of the salsa, like the corn and roasted tomato's. The sweet taste, balance's out the heat from the Mexican chipotle chilies very well. So much so that it is kid friendly. The ingredients of the Desert Pepper roasted tomato chipotle corn salsa is all fresh. There are chilies, cilantro, tomatoes, red peppers, black beans, yellow corn, onions and a great balance of garlic. The Desert Pepper trading company's salsa and their dips are always natural and made with nothing but fresh vegetables, and you taste this with each bite you take. Just through the jar, you see all the ingredients, and it invites you in to taste. When eating the Desert Pepper roasted tomato chipotle corn salsa believe it or not you savor every ingredient, and even have the some of corn, that remained whole. There are chunks of tomatoes, that just went so perfectly in my breakfast dish. Absolutely a perfect tasty salsa, that I could see using on baked chicken as a topping, even a baked fish, but of course you can just go for a chip and dip.

All the meals I am going to make today, are with Desert Peppers trading companies products are fast and easy. And lunch will be no exception.

I made the family some sloppy Joe's and used the jar of Desert Peppers corn black bean red pepper salsa as the only ingredient other then the hamburger. Not only did it bind well, all the flavor was from the salsa. The Desert Pepper corn black bean red pepper salsa is made with the same fresh ingredients. For the taste it’s a little spicy, and has a smoky flavor as well. The blend and texture is more fuller, and this is from the black beans. You still get chunks of corn and tomatoes, with makes it a very fresh homemade tasting salsa. As far as the heat level, its still kid friendly, it’s a medium kick, nothing that over powers you. All around the flavors are lush and very authentic, taking you to the Southwest, right from your own kitchen. Now this Desert Pepper Trading Company, corn black bean red pepper salsa is very versatile, I could see using it on top of cream cheese as a dip, or on nachos, its all up to you to be creative.

The next meal to get ready for is dinner. This is going to be where the true fiesta starts. I am going to make two appetizers, plus a main dish, and a wonderful seafood side dish.

For my first appetizer, I am making choriqueso, a true Mexican sausage dish, that combines chorizo and queso. And for the queso part, I am using Desert Pepper trading company's, Chile con queso. It's a simple dish to make, and with the Desert Pepper, Chile con queso, it was even faster. It's not a surprise that this appetizer was a hit, you can't go wrong with the ingredient combo. And again, Desert Pepper, Chile con queso provided all the flavors. The roasted red and green chilies and the cheddar cheese provided my dish with a perfect meld of true Southwest flavors. As for the spice level, Desert Peppers, Chile con queso really delivered. You right away taste the chili flavor that comes through, a combo of green Chile's and red Chile's, and yet they do not over powering and burn. The heat level is a medium and over takes your senses with a creamy, wake up your taste bud taste. The Desert Pepper trading company, Chile con queso is truly a seriously tasty and unique queso, that will not disappoint. Whether you eat it out of the jar with chips, or served warm in a dish, the flavors will make any dish delicious.

Being serious about my fiesta night, I made a second appetizer, using Desert Pepper trading company, black bean dip. Now not wanting to eat it out the jar plain, I made my own spin on it. I made a warm dip, placing the black bean dip, in a baking dish the contents of the Desert Pepper black bean dip on the bottom, then topping it with cheese, tomato, and a cilantro garnish at the end. I only had to warm it long enough for the cheese to melt, and I had a wonderful black bean dip to serve with tortilla chips. This is a jar filled with wonderful creamy black beans, and a hint of smoky flavors. It is a calm before a light storm, that just burst with waves of spice. There is a heat combo that comes to you, and this is from chiles that meld beautifully in the creamy black beans. The black bean dip is just the right consistency, not to thick, just a perfect creamy blend. And the best part about all Desert Pepper trading company products are that they are vegan, have no preservatives, no additives, and are gluten free. You eat just fresh tasting ingredients, that taste like you cooked all day. You could eat the black bean dip straight from the jar, but is great as a warm dip as well. I could say, this Desert Pepper, black bean dip, spicy I might add, would be great in a seven layer dip, or even as a bottom for some sunny side up eggs.

So for the main course it has two dish's, and the first is some spicy shrimp diablo using Desert Pepper trading company tequila salsa. Not only did I get the flavor I wanted, but it paired perfectly with the spice I added to the shrimp. The tequila salsa added even more fire to my diablo shrimp by having fiery chilies in the ingredients. And for the tequila part, this was bright silver tequila giving my dish a very unique taste. If your looking for a lip smacking tingle, this is the salsa that will give it to you. The texture is a medium saucy, with chunky bits of ingredients. Full bodied, rich, smoky, with the perfect kick. Desert Pepper, took a salsa and made it come alive, with bright silver tequila. This is truly a restaurant style salsa from the old west. It's delicious, and easy to use, whether out the jar, or in a warm recipe. And you don't have to worry about the tequila, it just brings the flavors to a whole new level, nothing you are going to get buzzed off of.

For the last dish I used Desert Pepper trading companies, peach mango salsa for a chicken dish. Taking a chicken breast and roasting it in the peach mango salsa, then adding more on top, was the ultimate finish for my fiesta night. Everyone ended with a very full belly, and a yummy meal. This dish made you think of sitting on the terrace if your hacienda, and watching the sun set. The salsa just burst with such juicy flavors. Desert Pepper trading company took sweet mango's and peaches, with green Chile peppers, and other spices, and made a salsa from heaven. The texture is not loose, it's a medium thickness with still some chunk to it. There is no overbearing heat, at all, and the sweet taste from the two fruits. It paired very well with chicken, but I could see it in a baked fish recipe, or just straight from the jar on a corn chip. The fusion of Desert Peppers peach mango salsa is pure delight, that you will want more of. But then again, you'll want that from all their products.

It was so much fun using these products to make great meals for my family today. And if you are interested in trying them, look them up at their website, Amazon, Wal-Mart and other stores.
