K'UL Product Review

K'UL, a social enterprise that believes that if they invest in women, they can reinvest in their communities and families. By collaborating exclusively with women's groups, they are building meaningful partnerships with women and paying them exclusively. This gives them greater economic opportunities to help their own families and communities.

Paul and Ari Lee Newman are the owner's of K'UL, a mission-driven organization that utilizes chocolate as a way of raising market understanding of the inequity between the growing prosperity of manufacturers and the exploitation activities utilized by farmers and producers worldwide. As a organization, K'UL focuses on helping and empowering women and works directly to help 20-24 cooperatives throughout the Equatorial Belt by 2025.

They, have always been on a mission to have a positive impact on the world by directly supporting women and communities worldwide. Through establishing this business, their goal was to humanize the chocolate story, while at the same time offering a forum to increase economic opportunity for families around the world.

The word K'UL is Mayan for "energy and interconnectivity of all living beings." This word encapsulates all Paul and Ari Lee, are seeking to achieve.

From their new chocolate factory in Bellingham, WA, they sent to me eight flavors of their organic direct trade chocolates, to taste and tell you about. All the chocolate bars that they process are what is called "bean to bar". With so many bars, and flavors to taste, I have incorporated the family, around to help me. There will be four family members trying two of each flavor.

The first bar my son in law tried was the K'ul organic dark chocolate bar "Pure Dark Chocolate". This bar is 80% direct trade cacao. Now what that means is how much of the bar weight is made from pure cocoa beans, or parts of, such as cocoa butter, and other ingredients. So it's important through out my review to understand that each bar has that percentage number on the package. Also on the package is the beautiful women K'ul has been inspired by. Now back to the bar. Everyone in my family loves chocolate there's no denying it. And my son in law, loved this Pure Dark Chocolate bar very much. He relayed to me, how it had a dark rich chocolate flavor, very rich and unique. It was smooth, and very creamy, almost melting right away in his mouth. In each bite he said he could taste the flavor of cherries, and no bitterness at all. Just to note all the bars are non gmo, have no soy, and are gluten free, and USDA organic. Even better then that they are made with only three ingredients, that's it. They are cacao beans, cane sugar, and coco butter. You are getting real pure chocolate bars, that you can indulge in.

The next bar from K'ul that I handed my son in law was the organic dark chocolate "Himalayan Sea Salt". Now how we are doing this is breaking the first square off each bar, so that our taste buds don't get over worked. This bar, as my son in law stated was so rich, almost like putting chocolate velvet in your mouth. the percentage for this bar was 70%. In each bite you take, you get the taste of the salt crystals, that are so perfectly balanced with the chocolate. Also there are currants and raisins in the bar, that rounds out the flavor. If you have ever used Himalayan salt and we're a fan, then you are going to love it with chocolate. The flavor is so unique, and it gives you a wonderful feeling to know if you buy these bars that you are supporting women and families worldwide. The taste over all is mild and very rich in flavor, a excellent quality of chocolate. This bar is made with four ingredients, that’s it. They are organic cacao beans, organic cocoa butter, organic Himalayan sea salt, and organic cane sugar.

K'ul bar number three went to my youngest daughter, whom loves anything with coconut in it. So she tasted the K'ul "Toasted Coconut Dark Chocolate Bar". This bar is 72%, bean to bar. Its delicate, unique and has the taste of coconut in every bite. This is another four ingredient bar, with cacao beans, cane sugar, coco butter, and toasted coconut. The chocolate for the bar is from Peru, and has been blended perfectly with coconut. A heavenly flavor, and smooth melt in your mouth goodness. My daughter has done many review tastes for me, and this by far was her favorite. She knows how to taste and test, and she loved the rich, smooth taste of the Toasted Coconut. There was no bitterness at all.

For bar number four, still tasted by my youngest daughter, I gave her the K'ul, "Wild Ginger and Cayenne Dark Chocolate Bar. After all every thing she eats has spice in it or on it. So the bar and her paired well together. This bar is 70%, and in each bite you can taste the ginger as well and the slight kick from the cayenne. She said from the first bite, to the end, you get a zesty taste that just works. This is a five ingredient bar from K'ul. It has organic cacao beans, organic cane sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic wild ginger, and organic cayenne pepper. If you like sweet and spicy, you will love this bar from K'ul.

The next corner piece of chocolate bar, went to my oldest daughter, and for that she tasted the Organic Dark Chocolate Espresso and Cacao Nibs. Just for the record, this is a family that drinks many cups of coffee through out the day, so this bar was sure to be a hit. Even opening the package, she could smell the aroma of espresso. The coffee beans used for the bar are Ethiopian, and we're used the same way as the cacao beans. The Espresso and Cacao Nibs bar had a very bold, taste, but refined at the same time. This bar from K'ul, is 70% direct trade cacao. Now if you love espresso, and chocolate this is the bar for you, and we are all having our fav's of K'ul bars! The ingredients for this K'ul bar, is cacao beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter, Ethiopian beans, and cacao nibs.

We are now on bar number six, and my oldest daughter is still up for the next corner piece of it. This is, K'ul, "Burnt Maple Crunch Milk Chocolate". This bar she said was very smooth, and melted so slowly and sweet in your mouth. You get in every bite the sweet, and savory taste of maple and chocolate, along with a crunch. The percentage of this bar is 45%. Again a five ingredient bar, made with organic cane sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic milk powder, organic cacao beans, and organic maple crunch. Can't go wrong with such pure natural ingredients. Any family would love having a natural tasting, pure chocolate treat in the house.

Now finally I get to tell you about my K'ul adventure. My bar is the K'ul "Sea Salt Almond Chocolate Bar". A perfect meld for me, since I only use Sea Salt! This is a surprisingly unique flavored bar, with almonds that are finely diced, along with grains of pink Himalayan sea salt, and a percentage of milk chocolate of 45%. Still having the same pure natural ingredients as all the rest of K'ul bars. It's a very sophisticated chocolate bar. Made this time with six ingredients, organic cane sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic milk powder, organic cacao beans, organic diced almonds, and the Himalayan sea salt. Every bite, is a party in your mouth, the melting of the milk chocolate, giving away to all the other ingredients. And that tiny crunch you get from the diced almonds, just perfect.

Sorry to say, it's the last bar of the evening. And the corner piece is from the K'ul bar, organic dark chocolate "Peppermint Crunch". The percentage of this bar is 65%, and has cacao from the Dominican Republic. Then into the dark chocolate, K'ul infused pure peppermint oil, and gluten free cookie crunch pieces. They do remind you of that other known cookie, but only better. Sorry, but true. This bar you will want to hide for your self, it can be very addictive. In every bite you get the fresh taste of the peppermint, while the dark chocolate just melts away as you chew. It is for sure a match truly made. The five ingredients, that delight you are cacao beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter, gf cookie crunch, and seely mint oil.

These product bars from K'ul will truly not disappoint you. And to know how much you will be empowering women, from around the globe, just inspires you. There is so much more to the story and the history of K'ul, that you will enjoy reading on the website. From the look of the package, to the last bite of chocolate squares, these bars are delicious.
