I love trying new products,
with my recipes. And tonight I will be using oils and vinegar's from a company
right here in my home state of New Jersey .
The company is called JDGourmet, and it is family owned and run. JD Gourmet provides a degree of
customized quality that you just won't find anywhere else. For more than twelve
years in the industry experience, Jeffery and Danny Elkins are managing the company
alongside their mom, Dee and brother, Mike giving culinary tips and guidance on
all the items in our store.
I am ready to bring, a bit of
sophistication to my dinner, with the aid of JD Gourmet, and their, all-natural
quality olive oil and Italian balsamic vinegars.
Dinner tonight will be in
four parts. The first part will be a crostini, with blue cheese and the JD
barrel aged fig balsamic vinegar. This vinegar is made with black mission figs,
and a splash of vanilla, and of course the star of the show, the vinegar. If
you don't know what a black mission fig is, here is a little background. It is
a dark purple almost black fig, that is full of flavor. Now as far as my crostini,
I toasted the bread tthen sliced it horizontally, put a teaspoon of blue cheese.
Then I drizzled JD Gourmet barrel aged fig balsamic vinegar over the top of the
crostini. The combo of the cheese and fig balsamic was perfection. All the
flavor came from only two ingredients, the cheese and the fig vinegar. You get
the melt in your mouth texture of the blue cheese, and the sweet and fruity
flavor of the fig balsamic vinegar. Now if you like you can use fig balsamic
vinegar in many types of recipes. For example it would be a great condiment for
a salad, over berries, and ice cream as well.
So now that the first course
is finished, and the two main dish's are cooking, I am onto a nice salad. For
this I am going to use the JD Gourmet balsamic barrel aged vinegar. The salad
is mixed greens, tomatoes, again crumbles blue cheese, some dried cranberries,
a side of walnuts, and JD Gourmet barrel aged balsamic vinegar. Again the only
seasoning was from the vinegar itself, nothing else was added. The balsamic
vinegar was sweet and tart at the same time. Not to sweet nor tart of either ingredient, a perfect blend,
that was not overbearing. The thickness of the balsamic was to perfection as
well. This balsamic is from JD Gourmet's own private stock, they can be very
proud of it. You can use this balsamic right from the jar, and it's delicious.
To add some great flavor to a recipe you might have, use it on pasta, veggies, and probably my favorite chicken. Aging balsamic vinegar is sometimes ignored in the field
of cooking, but it may bring a special taste to many dishes. It may be included
in a marinade or a meat dish or mixed with salad. For starters, when frying chicken
in a skillet, you may add balsamic vinegar as part of a herbal and broth sauce.
It's just a matter of using your imagination.
Now the first main dish for
dinner is done. I made a pork tenderloin, roasted in the oven with the JDGourmet rosemary and garlic oil. The roast had no other seasonings as well, and
all the flavor came from the oil. The reason no extra seasoning was needed, is
because of the ingredients in this oil from JD Gourmet. Which are, Extra virgin
olive oil and roasted garlic, herbs and Dijon mustard. As a garnish I did tear some fresh basil,
but very little, so it did not take away from the rosemary and garlic oil. For
having rosemary infused in the oil, it was not over pungent, but did still have
a slight woodsy aroma. The total amount of rosemary and garlic oil I used was approximately
one fourth cup, and I poured this over while roasting the pork loin.
As a side dish, I made a
melody of roasted potato's and asparagus, and coated it with the JD Gourmetbasil garlic and parmesan oil. Then roasted it in a 400 degree oven until the
potato's and the asparagus we're tender. As a garnish, I chopped some fresh
basil very finely, so it did not over power the oil. The JD Gourmet basil
garlic and parmesan oil is out of this world. You get the nutty, salty flavor
from the parmesan, and the fruity taste of the olive oil, and the basil gave it
a pesto taste. Could not have paired the dish any better. Now JD Gourmet took
these ingredients for the oil and combined them, Extra virgin olive oil and basil, along with Parmesan cheese, garlic and walnuts. So you also get the
nutty flavor from the walnuts as well. I can see using the gourmet oil of
basil, garlic and parmesan over pasta, or a salad, or even add it to your pesto
recipe.
