A little tea history

Was tea cultivated in the United States of America? It's true about that! While we still have a way to go, American grown tea is a warm culture and a increasing industry. From the fertile volcanic land of Hawaii's, where the majority of the farms live in the warm and humid subtropical environment of the American Southeast to as far north as the Canadian frontier in the Pacific Northwest, tea farms have continued to develop all over the globe.

Fairhope Tea Plantation As the second biggest tea plantation in America, Fairhope is owned by Donnie Barrett. This 60,000-plant powerful tea garden was initially a Lipton Research Facility which was largely made up of only three plants that had been destroyed after Hurricane Frederic which spared Barrett from being burned in the flames. Finished tea is eligible for purchase nearby.

Tsubaki Tea A subsidiary of Tsubaki Camellias, which also runs Gene's Nursery in Savannah, has been a family-owned enterprise for over 60 years. They market all sorts of Camellias, plus several specific types of tea plants. They also have comprehensive assistance and guidance for growing, planting and processing the tea plants.
